I’ve answered many beauty questions over the years and as the Summer approaches, I thought I would share some of the most common questions I get asked on how to beat common Summer beauty issues!

Dear Damone,
How do you get rid of the greenish hue that hair gets from spending too much time in the pool? I’m afraid to keep applying color—funds are low and swimming is one of the few luxuries I allow myself these days. My husband says if you have a solution to this one, he will personally be forever grateful!
— Jennie, age 38, Palm Springs California
Geez, Jennie, you know how to really put a guy on the spot. I not only have you depending on me, but the husband as well! The good news is I have an easy, cheap solution. Tomato juice works wonders by stripping the chlorine and adding shine to the hair strand, especially lighter colors. Make sure you apply the juice straight from the can, as you work it through with a comb. Let the juice sit for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing out. Now you can continue to enjoy your favorite sport, as your husband continues to look at his beautiful wife, with a more natural haircolor.
Dear Damone,
Your skin always looks flawless and radiant. Is there a skincare system that you recommend? And what makeup would you recommend that would look natural as well?
— Vickie, age 45, Rock Mount, North Carolina
Dear Vickie,
Thank you for the compliment! I am a huge fan of clean skin. I wash my face nightly with a mild cleanser and then remove any excess dirt and grime with an astringent. Lastly, I like to apply a soft glycolic acid before retiring for the evening. I only rinse with water in the morning, as my skin is very sensitive, before applying my best friend: sunscreen. I also recommend using a facial scrub twice a week and, if possible, getting a facial once a month. It sounds like a lot, but remember—the skin is the largest organ on the body. Take care of it! To keep makeup looking natural, I recommend using a tinted moisturizer to even out the skin and protect against the sun. Keep your eyebrows nicely groomed, and add a touch of color to brighten things up with a soft lip gloss.
Dear Damone,
I have extremely dry lips and have tried everything over the counter that promises to help. They all feel great for the first 15 minutes, but then I’m right back where I started, and sometimes even worse than when I began. What is your recommendation?
— Cicely, age 29, New York, New York
Cicely, I find sometimes the easiest solution is right in your medicine cabinet. I would first use a dry toothbrush to softly remove the dry, flaky part of the lip. To keep them moisturized, I would suggest something that does not have a lot of different ingredients, such as Vaseline. Lastly, remember to keep the body hydrated, which will moisturize from within. These simple steps are a sure solution to a very common problem. Best of luck to you.

A while ago, I wrote this article for Oprah.com and thought it would be a great reminder to all you beauties, as we start the Summer Season! Rejuvenate and kick start your summer with these simple steps!

I would like to extend an offer to you to look at your individual health, spiritual connection and personal state of being. Please make sure to incorporate a regular beauty regimen as you consider these very important components of your life.
I believe every woman is beautiful in her own unique way, yet are you taking the time to look and feel your best? It is a proven fact that when you look better, you feel and do better.
Start scheduling time for yourself as you finally step out of your beauty rut. You will find a renewed sense of self and a surge of energy. It is a new year, a new beginning and a new you!
Q: I really want to get back on a regular schedule with my facialist, but with children, a husband and a full-time career, there is quite simply no time.
A: You have to make time for yourself! This is not only to make you look and feel better, but also to lay down for a few hours while someone takes care of you.
Two hours a month (facials should be done on a monthly basis) is not going to make the world stop spinning. Realize that you are worth it! Surprisingly, you will have more energy and patience to deal with your family and career. Let this be the season you make the change.
Q: I have always wanted to try one of the bright nail shades, which seem to be the trend right now, but I am afraid the look may be too extreme?
A: Bright nails are certainly the hot thing right now! The look is very stylish and definitely works better on short nails during the summer season. Remember it is just nail polish. Let’s make this season the time you decided to step out of your box. Just go for it!
Q: My hair length goes well down my back and feel I have a tendency to hide behind it. I think I am ready to cut it, but want to be sure I’m willing to take the time required to style it on a daily basis.
A: Be truthful to yourself when it comes to hiding behind your hair. Consider why you feel the need to cover up who you are.
If you are seriously ready to make that leap, I would suggest you go to a professional hairstylist to discuss your time options for daily prep and maintenance.
I would also look into donating the hair (visit LocksofLove.org) as it is always nice to give back. Lastly, be truthful with your hairdresser. If you still want to have enough length to pull back into a ponytail at times, make sure you say it. Be realistic with what you’re willing to do daily to make you feel your best this summer!

2) Mountain Climbers to Cross Rotation: This is a core-focused cardio move (mountain climber) followed by a core-focused total body toning move (cross torso rotation). This combination will increase your calorie burn and help you tone the entire body with an extra focus on the abs.
3) Plank Walk-Ups: This a combination of core-focused cardio and total body toning move. By using the entire body you will keep the calories burning while toning the entire body, including the abs.
4) Stationary Lunge With Rotation: This is another total body toning move, and by adding a basic rotation we increased the use of the core muscles, helping you create more definition in the abs.
For more amazing core-focused exercises you can check out Jeanette’s Blast the Belly Fat DVD.

Allergy Season Survival Tips

Rinse Wisely
Wash your eyelids gently when you wash your face each morning. Shampoo your hair in the evening if you have been out on high-pollen days (or after being outdoors) to remove and wash away unwanted seasonal pollens and molds. This will stop them from landing on your pillow and bed sheets during the night.
Wear a Hat
Get a sombrero! Wear a wide-brimmed hat to prevent pollens from landing on top of your head.
Say No to Hair Gel
Don’t use hair gel and similar hair-care products that can act as “pollen magnets” during the height of allergy season.
Avoid the Pollen Problem
Consider exercising indoors on very high-pollen days. Higher levels of pollens are usually found on warm, dry and windy days.
Plan Ahead and Know Your Pollen Count
Go to www.aaaai.org/nab for accurate pollen and mold levels in your area. Pollen levels are typically higher on warm, sunny, dry and windy days, and lower on cooler, moist, wet and “windless” days.
Mask It
Wear a pollen mask, use gloves, and avoid touching your eyes and face. This can really help during gardening and/or lawn mowing.
Don’t Line Dry
Never line dry clothing outdoors on high-pollen days, as it will adhere to your linens, towels, etc.
Avoid Certain Plants and Flowers
They may be pretty, but it’s better to keep your distance. Many flowers will drive up your allergy symptoms, especially if you really inhale their aroma up close. Avoid the following: Daisies, chrysanthemum, amaranthus, dahlia, sunflower, black-eyed Susan, zinnia, privet and lilac.
Try an Allergy-Friendly Garden
Plant gladiolus, periwinkle, begonia, bougainvillea, iris and orchid. These plants won’t aggravate your allergies.
Start Your Allergy Treatment Early
See an allergist for simple, fast, reliable allergy tests so you can get relief.
Get Shot
Allergy injections are the only immune system treatment that can actually prevent the progression of your allergies, and provide long-term relief in 85% or more of properly selected allergy sufferers.
Medications Work
Effective and safe choices for relief include: OTC nasal saline sprays/rinses, prescription nasal steroid and antihistamines, oral antihistamines, leukotriene blockers, and allergy eye drops.
Clean the Air
At home or when driving, keep windows closed and set the air conditioner on “re-circulate” to keep out the pollens. Clean filters in air conditioners frequently during allergy season to get the best efficiency. The MERV is a rating scale that tells you how good a filter is at removing allergens in your home. The higher the rating, the better off you are. Look for a MERV value of 11-12.
Avoid Window Fans
This is a rather good way to bring in unwanted pollens/mold spores. If you don’t want that, skip window fans.
Avoid Cross-Reactions
As many as 1 in 3 seasonal allergy sufferers may experience “oral allergy syndrome” (tingling of the mouth or itchy throat) after ingesting certain foods (apples, pears, carrots, celery, peaches, cherries, as well as almonds and hazelnuts). If you have seasonal tree pollen allergies, this is due to a cross-reaction between the proteins in these foods and the pollens. Melons, tomatoes and oranges may cross-react with grass pollens. If you are sensitive to weed pollens watch out for melon, chamomile tea, and banana.
Enjoy the great outdoors this season with these simple, practical and proven ways to stay allergy-free!

Only hire people you want to have dinner with ~ Tom Ford
One of the things I have realized in my life journey, is how much we can actually control. As the CEO of my own companies, it’s important that I actually like the people I spend the most time with. I admit that we’ve been fortunate in the regard that I can’t actually meet all that I employ as we continue to grow, but the ones I have appointed in hiring positions, know my stance on good energy & building a family environment. This is true with friends as well. I know MANY people, but can count my friends on one hand. Choose who you have in your space… Carefully!XO
