Beauty Tip of The Day~DIY Pretty Pucker!

Those dull, dry chapped lips…a thing of the past! We found this wonderful DIY lip treatment, that will bring back the “kiss” for your kissable lips and all you have to do is head over to your kitchen and/or grocery store, mix these ingredients and then tackle “the chap”…head on.  Here are two solutions, depending on how bad the damage is.  If only there were chocolate in them…

Pretty Sweet (Lightweight Formula)

One teaspoon Brown Sugar

One teaspoon Honey

One teaspoon Olive Oil or Petroleum Jelly

Mix the brown sugar and honey together to create a paste and thickly coat your lips.  Leave it on for a few minutes then start gently scrubbing with your finger until all the dead skin has been buffed off.  Immediately dab on olive oil or lip balm to moisturize.

Oh So Coco (Extra Moisture Formula)

One teaspoon Sea Salt 

One teaspoon Coconut Butter or Coconut Oil (available at your local health food store)

Mix the two together then pat on your lips and gently scrub in circular motion until it’s as smooth as a baby’s…

Now your lipstick/gloss will glide on as it should!  Repeat daily until you feel your old pout is back.

Beauty Tip of The Day~Face Mapping! What your skin is trying to tell you!

Have you ever heard of face mapping? If not, it’s pretty much the key to unlocking the mysteries behind problematic skin. Thanks to the combined knowledge of dermatologists who have analyzed skin behaviors and ancient Chinese medicinal methods there is a smarter way to interpret and treat skin imperfections by way of “face mapping.” Face mapping is a type of skin analysis that explains why and how certain areas of your face are connected to other parts of your body.  It’s pretty amazing stuff…

Why do you break out in some areas and not others? 

Think of your blemishes as X’s on a map that is your face. Different zones correspond to different problems. With this “map” as your guide, you can address the underlying causes of blemishes and correctly determine how to prevent them from recurring. (Don’t you wish you knew about this in middle school?)

So, what are your breakouts telling you? 

Using the face mapping method to decode what’s going on with your body is both incredibly informative and very extensive if you ask me. Here is an overview of the basic areas and what breakouts or abnormalities in those areas mean:

Zone 1 & 3: Bladder & Digestive System — Improve your diet and drink more water. 

Zone 2: Liver — Try cutting back on alcohol, heavy food or dairy. This area can also indicate a food allergy. 

Zone 4 & 10: Kidneys — Make sure you’re keeping yourself hydrated with water and cut back on liquids that dehydrate you. This means nix the soda, coffee and/or alcohol. 

Zone 5 & 9: Respiratory system — Those who smoke or have allergies tend to have acne here. 

Zone 6 & 8: Kidneys — Dark circles are usually a result of dehydration. Drink up! 

Zone 7: Heart — Check your blood pressure and make sure you’re not using makeup that irritates your skin. 

Zone 12: Stomach — Consider a detox or adding more fiber to your diet to help with digestion. 

Zone 11 & 13: Hormones — Stress and hormonal changes can sometimes be alleviated with more water and a few extra servings of dark, leafy greens but if breakouts in this area persistent, make an appointment with your doctor to look into a possible hormonal imbalance. Additionally, breakouts in this area also indicate when you are ovulating (and which side). 

Zone 14: Illness — Can be a sign of your body fighting bacteria to avoid illness. Take a breather and drink plenty of fluids. 

So the next time you breakout or notice dark under eye circles, look to your map (or shall we say your face map). 


P.S. Please note that these are general guidelines. Just becuase you breakout on your nose doesn’t mean you have a heart problem. As with all medical issues, it is always best to see your doctor or dermotologist for a proper prognosis.

Beauty Tip of the Day~ DIY Make Up Setting Spray

Want your make up to last all day and night, but you’re on a bit of a budget?  You can make your own setting spray for about $5. Yes, $5

You can use setting sprays to moisturize your skin, set your make up, and add some shine to your hair. If you look cakey with too much face powder you can use setting spray to make it melt into your skin. It is great in the summer months because it prevents your make up from moving or if you are one of those girls who wears makeup to the gym. If your foundation dries before you buff into your skin all the way, you can spray it on your brush and then finish applying the make up. Pretty much everything and anything.
   Now lots of companies also make a mixing medium, sold with your pigment eye shadows so that the loose powder doesn’t fall on your face. Mixing medium is also very versatile in its uses. The funny part is that its the very same thing as finishing spray just in different packaging. So, this setting spray that you are about to make can be used as a mixing medium also!

• 1 part pure glycerin (You can find it in the facial care area at your local pharmacy, cooking stores or even craft stores) 
• 3 parts Filtered water 
• Something to put it in ( a spray bottle)

Beauty Tip of the Day~ How to go from dull to bright skin!

Lemons are so amazing!  We post a lot about the benefits of lemons; from drinking it with water, to exfoliating your dry elbows and heels.  Today, we are sharing the benefits of using lemon on your face to brighten dull, sleepy skin!

If you’ve been skimping on sleep lately (we know we shouldn’t, but sometimes we’re guilty), you may notice that your skin has lost its usual brightness and luster. To make the gray go away, squeeze some fresh lemon juice onto a cotton pad and apply to skin. 

“Lemon juice is an acid, so it can act as a toner for dull skin,” says Dr. Sobel. “It has exfoliating properties, so it can help brighten the look of the skin. But, it can also be very drying, so make sure to rinse it off after ten minutes or so.” A brighter, clearer skin and a natural aromatherapy treatment!  We love it!

Beauty Tip of The Day~ DIY Super Silky Spring Legs

Did you know that it is recommended that you exfoliate your legs each time you shave them?  You didn’t?  Well, now you do!  Want unbelievably soft, silky legs?  You’ll have to try this…we stumbled across this and WOW!!  Your legs will be the softest you’ve ever had them!

Super Silky Spring Legs

Ingredients

• 1 1/4 cup sugar
• 1/2 cup oil (I used olive oil, but you can use any oil, coconut oil, baby oil, canola oil, etc.)
• 3 tablespoons citrus juice (lemon or lime)
• Razor

Mix everything together. A mason jar works well here.  Just add all of the ingredients and shake it all up. 

Soak your legs in the tub for 5 minutes. Or if you’re taking a shower, wash and condition your hair first, then after your legs have had a chance to soak for a few minutes, apply the mixture to your legs and rub it in.  

The abrasiveness of the sugar rubs off all the dirt and dead skin, the lemon juiceworks as a mild skin peel revealing brighter, smoother skin, and, of course, the olive oil penetrates deep into the skin and provides long-lasting moisture.

When you get out of the bath or shower, put lotion on and enjoy your silky smoooooooth legs!  You will be so amazed at how soft your skin feels, you won’t be able to keep your hands off of yourself!

Beauty Tip of The Day~DIY At Home Gel Manicure! Yep, at home!!

At-Home Gel Manicure

Want the perfect, shiny shellac gel manicure that you can do at home? You’ve probably seen the gel manicure kits that you can buy at drugstores, but even those can be just as pricey as getting a professional manicure. Well, we came across an amazingly simple and affordable at home gel manicure.

Why you need to try this:
1) You’ll need to buy only one product in order to get the perfect gel manicure.
2) You can use regular nail polish that you already have — no need to buy a special gel nail polish!


All you need for this at-home gel manicure is Gelous Advance Nail Gel Coat ($5.99 at Sally’s Beauty Supply), any nail color of your choice, a clear top coat  and a nail buffer.

First things first, remove any nail polish from your nails for a clean canvas. Use a file to shape your nails and clean up any rough edges. Next, buff your nails until they are smooth using a nail buffer. Then remove any nail dust, dirt, or oil from your nail by swiping a cotton ball soaked in acetone (or any nail polish remover) over your nails. Now you’re ready to apply your gel manicure. Follow these simple steps:

1) Apply two thin layers of the Gelous Nail Gel to your nails, allowing a couple minutes in between to dry a little bit. After applying your second coat, allow the gel to set. I waited about 3 minutes.
2) Next, apply a layer of your nail color and allow to dry (about 5 minutes)
3) Apply another layer of Gelous Nail Gel on top of your nail color and allow it to set for about 2 minutes so that it’s semi-dry. Make sure that the ends of your nails are sealed by swiping the brush over top. This will ensure you won’t see a single chip for the entire duration of your gel manicure.
4) Apply a second layer of nail color.
5) Finish it off with your choice of top coat. Stick with a fast drying top coat with high shine for the best results.

TA-DA! A gel manicure for the fraction of the cost! If you have every product but the Gelous Nail Gel Coat already, you’ll have only spent $5.99 for this at-home gel manicure. Can you beat that?

Beauty Tip of The Day~How to get that Full Lip Look!

For full lips go for a glossy look. Try first outlining the perimeter of your lips using a concealer brush dipped in bronzer two shades deeper than your skin tone. Then, top pout with gold, peach, or coral gloss.
