Congratulations to my good friend and client, Nia Long who is on the cover of August 2012 Essence magazine. Her gorgeous hair was done by my dear friend, emmy award winner, Oscar James ( @oscarjameshair ) and her amazing brows were done, by none other than Damone Roberts Beverly Hills artist, Kristina Tamasyan
The 41-year-old actress looked as happy as ever as she hammed it up alongside her handsome sons, 19-month-old Massai Zhivago and 9-month-old Kez Sundayin, while telling the publication that she “has never felt more fulfilled” than she does in the present.

On being in the best shape of her life:
“I’m in my forties, post baby and I’m thinner than I’ve been in years. The last step will be letting my hair go natural. That’s when you’ll know I’m free…”
On if a husband is in her future plans:
“Marriage is not a priority for me. I’m not saying I’ll never do it; It’s just not where we are as a family.”
On her maturation since having children:
“I’m a lot calmer. Less clingy and demanding. When Ime has to be gone for long stretches at a time, as he had to the first few months after Kez was born, I took it as an opportunity to nest. It had been a minute since I had an infant and I had to get back into the rhythm of being a new mom. I really enjoyed having the space to do that at my own pace. Motherhood is not easy, but it’s natural. I worked hard to have the career I wanted, but I’ve also been deliberate about my personal life. None of this is a mistake.”

Downey on the advice that changed his life:
The greatest thing my dad taught me came one day when I called him from a phone booth and said, “Hungry. No bus token. Please. Out of options. Friends aren’t picking up the phone.”
He said, “Pfft, get a job.”
I couldn’t believe it. He just completely stiffed me. I thought I had this guy by some sort of guilt hook still. I thought I could at least get five bucks or something. He said, “Call your friends.”
I said, “I called them.”
He said, “Get a job.”
I said, “Dad, where am I going to get a job in enough time to get a paycheck and eat a slice of pizza?”
He said, “Enough.”
And you know what, I made do. The next phone call was to some Irish chick whose dad was out of town, and I wound up over at her place. And pretty soon I had a job. I wouldn’t wish that lesson on an enemy. But, you know, sometimes you just gotta be drop-kicked out of the nest. And by the way, I don’t think those lessons are exclusive to your formative years. I think that human beings tend to keep re-creating some secret, covert mess as they go along. What do they call it in pop psychology — your comfort zone? I have such a deep empathy for seeing someone’s private Idaho crushed. But it’s the only thing that ever really gets you to the next level, right?
